Aim of the Conference

The aim of the conference is to provide a multilingual, international platform for exploration and exchange of research findings, perspectives, and experience in the field of discourse and conversation analysis across communicative and cultural contexts. The event will bring together academics, researchers, practitioners, and students concerned with the analysis of language in use. Special emphasis will be given to empirical research on manifestation of mental representations in interaction.

We invite papers on all topics related to how mental representations get surfaced, performed, and accomplished in interactional contexts including, but not limited to:

    Goals, intentions and commitments in communication
    Non-linguistic interaction in communication
    Gestures as a communicative system
    Natural language understanding and reasoning in spoken language
    Multimodal interaction
    Meaning in institutional contexts
    Interaction in a foreign language
    Identities as discursive-performative / multiple / fragmented /  constructed and negotiated / narrated / etc.
    Categorization and personal identity
    Construal of meaning
    Identity and bilingualism
    Identity and foreign language learning/teaching

Abstracts
300 word abstracts should be submitted by JUNE 15, 2012. Abstracts should be registered via the web page www.filolog.uni.lodz.pl/action/form_registration.php

Only plain text will be accepted by the web page, so abstain from using footnotes and any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline).
The length of the presentation will be limited to 20 minutes with a 10 minute discussion following each.

Publication
Selected conference papers will be eligible (subject to conditions) for publication with Peter Lang

Standard registration for participants from Poland – 500 PLN
PhD Students – 120 EUR
PhD students from Poland – 400 PLN

Polish and foreign doctoral and M. A. students expecting a discount (see above) must have an appropriate certificate to present to the organizers.

Note: The regular procedure for Polish institutions is to issue an invoice on receipt of the registration fee. Therefore we will not be in a position to send you an invoice before your fee has been registered at the conference account. You can collect the invoice in person or we can send it to you via the postal service, in which case, please remember to give complete, detailed information about the institution entitled to receive the invoice.
When the invoice is issued, it will be made out to the title of the account used for payment. Therefore, if you want to have the invoice issued for your home institution, you must have the payment transferred from your institution account. If you do it from your personal account, the invoice will be issued with your name on it, not the name of your institution.

Venue and accommodation

The venue of the conference is the University Conference Centre in £ód¼, Kopcińskiego 16/18 (www.csk.uni.lodz.pl). The organizers have reserved enough rooms for their guests, so there is no need to contact  the hotel (Conference Centre) about reservation. The venue offers conference facilities, accommodation and meals on the premises. It is conveniently situated near the city centre, with easy access from the airport, train and bus stations. £ód¼ is also accessible by plane, although the local airport has a limited number of flights (mainly low-cost airlines). Among others it has a regular service to London (Stansted), Birmingham, UK and Israel.
General guidelines: due to rebuilding of £ód¼ Fabryczna Railway Station, trains from Warsaw and Cracow stop at £ód¼ Widzew Station or £ód¼ Kaliska Station.

Transport from Warsaw:
•    The easiest way to travel from Warsaw Chopin Airport to £ód¼ is by train. Trains from Warsaw to £ód¼ are fast and frequent, but they need to be taken from the centre of Warsaw. There is a direct bus connection between Warsaw Airport and Warsaw Central Railway Station, called Warsaw Airport Transfer.
•    The journey from Warsaw Central Railway Station to £ód¼ Widzew Station or £ód¼ Kaliska Station lasts approximately 2 hours and 2 hours 30 minutes respectively.
•    To reach the University of £ód¼ Conference Centre, it is best to take a taxi. Taxi fare from both railway stations in £ód¼ should be around 25 PLN.
